Aileene Lula Meadows of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Kennett, Mo. transitioned to Heaven to be with her family and loved ones Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008.
Mrs. Meadows was born Nov. 14, 1923 in Campbell, Mo. She was a member of Fellowship General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, and was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. Mrs. Meadows was raised on a farm and loved taking care of her yard and flowers. She had a number of pets, and was a compassionate animal lover. During the 1960's Mrs. Meadows worked at Ely-Walker Shirt Mfg., and from 1974 to 1976 she worked at Snider's Grocery in the Produce Department. On Jan, 7, 2008 she was involved in a fiery car crash that nearly took her life if not for her guardian angel who saved her. Her health continued to decline from April until her passing. Aileen was a strong determined lady who dedicated her life to her daughter Judy. Special thanks go to all the third wing hospital staff at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for the wonderful care and kindness that Aileen received. God has called Aileen home to join him in the kingdom of Heaven. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
On July 8, 1948 she was united in marriage to Grady Lee Meadows in Leachville, Ark. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1973 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, in Poplar Bluff. She was a loving wife to Grady for 60 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Ellen Meadows of Poplar Bluff; sister, Geraldine Lucy Lowe of Ceres, Calif.; three nieces, Tana Marbury, of Howell, Mich., Lavonda Fletcher, of Burleson, Tex. and Carmelita Armstrong, of St. Charles, Mo.; nephew, Dennie Lowe, of Modesto, Calif.; two great nieces; great-nephew; two great-great-nieces; and special friend, Shearry Kridelbaugh, of Cape Girardeau.
Her parents, William Carl and Lucy Ellen (Perkins) Like; a sister, Ruby Lee Like; four brothers, Elmus Like, Bill Like, Delmar Like and Van Like; and two nephews, Leo Like and Von Like preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel with the Rev. Byron Beck officiating and the Rev. Keith Woodruff assisting. Burial will be at the old Woodlawn Cemetery, in Campbell, Mo. Pallbearers who will be honoring her are: Gordon Edwards, Dickie Law, Jr. Law, Mike Innes, John Maddox and Russell Rowland, all of Poplar Bluff.
