Alice Boyers Ellis, 88, of Poplar Bluff died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Ellis was born Nov. 2, 1923 in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of First Assembly of God, where she was a dedicated teacher of Sunday School and Children's Church for many years. Mrs. Ellis enjoyed being a homemaker and mother and felt her ministry in life was raising her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Mar. 12, 1949, she was married to Daniel E. Ellis of Murphysboro, Ill. Mr. Ellis preceded her in death on Mar. 19, 2004.
Survivors include 8 children, William D. Ellis and wife Sharon, Jerry D. Ellis and wife Bonnie, Dale Ellis and wife Bridgette, Lynn Blocker and wife Karen, Kerry E. Ray, Joetta L. Byerly and husband Rick, Glenda J. Montgomery and husband Kevin and Tina A. Ray; 28 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Faye Sisk Payne and husband Bobby; 2 brothers, R.J. Boyers and wife Donna and Kelly Boyers and wife Judy; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Her parents, Ira and Clelah (Loge) Boyers, daughter, Joyce C. Ray, son, Kelly D. Blocker, sisters, Kate Boyers Hamilton and Georgia ""Jo"" Boyers Casinger and brothers, Auburn Boyers and John F. Boyers also preceded Mrs. Ellis in death.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel with the Rev. David Craig officiating. Burial will follow in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
