Alice E. Simmons

Alice E. Richter Simmons, 89, of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at The Cedargate Care Center, in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Simmons, the daughter of the late Frank and Hetwig (Germer) Richter, was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Chicago, Ill. She was a member of Township Line Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Simmons was a member of The Extension Club. She enjoyed volunteering at Twin Towers, reading, ceramics and gardening.

On March 24, 1945, she married Norman Simmons in Chicago. Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1997.

Survivors include two children: Sandra (Gary) Ward and Allen (Diana) Simmons, all of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren: Racheal Clyburn, Gary Ward II, Jess Ward, Raymond Simmons, Mark Simmons and Michelle Simmons; and ten great-grandchildren.

A son, Frank Simmons, and two sisters, Marion McGuire and Mildred LaMentia also preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel with Elder Lloyd Steinshower officiating. Burial will be at the Montgomery-Shepherd Cemetery.
