Mrs. Alma Kirk Hawkins, 99, departed this life Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020. Born May 4th, 1920, the daughter of the late James and Birdie Kirk, she was the last survivor of their nine children.
Alma was born in the Biggers-Reyno, Ark. area, but spent most of her life in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith. During the earlier years of her life she sang in a gospel quartet as well as many church specials. She previously served as past commander of the VFW women’s auxiliary and was recognized and honored by John J. Pershing VA Medical Cener in Poplar Bluff for completing over 3,000 hours of voluntary service to veterans. Alma was known for her love and generosity to others.
Alma spent the last part of her life in assisted living at St. Barnards Village in Jonesboro and later lived at Sunshine Manor and Green Acres Nursing home in Paragould, Ark.
Alma was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, J.D. Hawkins.
Survivors include her son Jerry A. (Marianne) Hawkins of Paragould; two grandchildren, Tony (Amy ) Hawkins of Silex, Mo. and Lauren Hawkins Hendrix of Brookland, Ark; one special grandchild by choice, Sophie Miller of Poplar Bluff, as well as many other special grandchildren by choice; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother-in-law, W. T. Hawkins of Pocahontas, Ark; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be a private graveside service at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
