Alma Elise Maddux, 79, of Poplar Bluff died Monday, April 27, 2009 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Maddux was born March 28, 1930 in Newellton, Louisiana. She was a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff where she had also served as the church secretary for over 40 years. She retired from the Florsheim Shoe Co. in 1984. Mrs. Maddux played on the first Poplar Bluff ladies softball team where she played well into her 50's. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching the St. Louis Cardinal's baseball games and playing cards.
On March 10, 1950 she married Norman Maddux in Piggott, Ark. He survives.
Other survivors include two daughters: Vicki Lynn Maddux and Debra Padgett and husband Glen, all of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren: Krista Salyer-Meyers and husband Mark, Matthew Sparkman, Christian Salyer and wife Casey, Jason Padgett and wife Suzy, Joshua Yarbrough of whom she helped raise and Nathan Padgett and wife Angela; and three great-grandchildren: Nikki Padgett, Avery Padgett and Courtney Padgett.
Her parents, James and Luella (Pearce) Goff, daughter, Jacquelyn Yarbrough (in June 2, 1999), and several sisters and brothers preceded Mrs. Maddux in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Dennis Ward officiating. Burial will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
