Altha Mayberry Sparkman

Altha Mayberry Sparkman, 89, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Sparkman was born July 3, 1922 in Broseley, Mo. She was a member of First Church of God, was a former member of the Cane Creek Homemaker's Club and was a homemaker. During her early years Mrs. Sparkman worked at J.C. Penney as well as Commerce Bank. She later owned and operated Frontier Motel and Restaurant on the east side of Poplar Bluff for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

On Jan. 28, 1938, she married Loyd Chalmer Warren. Mr. Warren preceded her in death on April 20, 1963. On Jan. 30, 1971, she married Meredith Sparkman. Mr. Sparkman preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1997.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Mattingly of St. Louis, Mo.; 3 sons, Loyd C. ""Sonny"" Warren and wife Jeanie of Winter Garden, Fla., Gordan Gail Warren also of St. Louis, Mo. and Jerry L. Warren and wife Ruth of Poplar Bluff; 2 stepsons, Gary Lynn Sparkman and wife Kaye of Poplar Bluff and Terry Sparkman and wife Rebecca of St. Louis, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Carla Campbell and husband Mike, Clark Warren, Dr. Greg Mattingly, Tim Mattingly and wife Jill, Susan Warren, Loyd R. Warren and wife Debbie, Kim Carpenter, Kristy Walls and husband Rodney, Wendy Meade and husband Darcy, Jay Warren and wife Candace, Matt Sparkman, Nathan Sparkman and wife Julie and Christine Wicks and husband Charles; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sparkman was also preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Lucy Belle (Smith) Mayberry, 3 sisters and 5 brothers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel with the Rev. Richard Triplett officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
