Archie Duwayne Rommel

Archie Duwayne Rommel, 63, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Rommel was born Feb. 17, 1951 in Peoria, Ill. He was of the Baptist faith and had retired as an over the road truck driver and later worked at Minit Print Printing Company. Mr. Rommel proudly served his country, while serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. For his service he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal ? 2nd Award, Vietnam Cross of Gallentry w/Palm (UC), Expert Badge with M-16 Rifle Bar, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon (2). He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing old records, hunting and fishing.

On March 27, 1984, he was married to the former Barbara Hillis in Sylvia, Mo. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include four children: Felicia Rommel and Phillip Phelps of Grandin, Mo. and James Hillis, Michael Rommel (Tammy) and Anthony Rommel (Angela), all of Poplar Bluff; his step-father, Raymond G. Lovette, of Poplar Bluff; three granddaughters: Mea Phelps, Lauren Phelps and Kimberly Hillis; five grandsons: Jay Rommel, Justin Rommel, Ashton Rommel, Landon Phelps and Kaden Rommel; two sisters: Ruth Lewis (Jeff) and Phyllis Rommel and friend Dennis, all of Poplar Bluff; three brothers: Larry Rommel (Jan) of Poplar Bluff, Roger Harris (Nancy) of Festus and Kenny Rommel (Carol) also of Poplar Bluff; and many nieces and nephews.

His mother, Alma Mullins Lovette, father, Clarence Rommel, sister, Virginia ""Sissy"" Meyers and three grandsons preceded Mr. Rommel in death.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Little Brushy Cemetery in Wappapello, Mo.
