Ashton Drake Barker

Ashton Drake Barker, a beautiful baby boy sent from heaven 10 years, 6 months and 9 days ago, returned to heaven Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis from complications after having surgery.

Drake, the son of Diana Faye Bazzell and James Brent Barker of Williamsville, Mo., was born Oct. 29, 2008 in Poplar Bluff. He was described by his parents as a child with the most beautiful soul, with eyes that sparkled and a smile that lit up the room. He gave so much love and anyone that was blessed to have known him said he had the ability to show them a whole new perspective on life, when you were down just one smile would lift you up. He was truly a gift and we were all so lucky for every second we got to have him. Drake definitely taught those that knew him to cherish life and not take anything for granted. He was a special boy that loved his nurses so very much! He also loved music, the sound of children talking, especially his classmates, he attended school via FaceTime and he loved it!! He loved spending time with his cousins, swimming, boat rides, and rides in the buggy. He was truly amazing! Drake will be so missed!!

In addition to his parents, Drake is survived by a brother Lane Barker; a sister Charity Barker; maternal grandmother Evelyn Bazzell; paternal grandparents, Judy Miller and Carl and Nita Barker; great-grandmother, Georgia Ann Young, who passed away two days after Drake; aunts, Debbie Bazzell, Georgiann Bazzell and Karen Bazzell; an uncle, Carlos Bazzell; and cousins, Dawson Schenks, Dylan Simmers, Carsen Bazzell and Katie Bazzell.

Drake was preceded in death by his grandfather, Carl Bazzell.

Visitation for Drake will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 17th at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 3:30 p.m. Pastor Rowdy Boyer will officiate. Burial will be at Black River Cemetery off JJ Highway in Butler County, very close to his home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ashton Drake Barker Memorial Fund at Southern Bank in Poplar Bluff.
