Audrey May Lester Wilson Holbrook, 89, of Poplar Bluff went home to be forever with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009.
Mrs. Holbrook was born May 29, 1920 to George Whitson Wilson and Saphronia Isabelle Campbell in Steele, Mo., and grew up in Hayti and the Bragg City area. She graduated from the Poplar Bluff Area Vocational School Practical Nurse program in 1973, and worked as an LPN at Doctor's Hospital where her favorite area was pediatrics. Mrs. Holbrook was an avid gardener and loved to grow different varieties of flowers and vegetables. She was also an avid artist and painted beautiful portraits and landscapes. Her greatest love was studying her Bible. When her children were young she read scriptures to them regularly. She also loved poetry.
On Dec. 7, 1944 she married Harry Herschel Holbrook. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2003.
Survivors include her children: Phyllis Rose Jordan Massmann of Middletown, Mo., Mary Lee Jordan Farmer and husband, George ""Butch"", of Foley, Mo., Herschel Eugene Holbrook and wife, Barbara and Serena Victoria Faith Holbrook Gower and husband, Rickey all of Poplar Bluff; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Holbrook was also preceded in death by 3 children: Virginia Ruth Jordan, Deborah Elaine Holbrook and Beverly Lynn Holbrook and a son-in-law, Elmer Carl Massmann.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Calvin Buhler officiating. Burial will be at Sparkman Cemetery in Butler County.
