Bailey Lewis, 82, of Poplar Bluff died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011 at Claru Deville Nursing Center in Fredericktown, Mo.
Mr. Bailey was born May 19, 1929 in Poplar Bluff. He was of the Baptist faith, and had retired as a restaurant chef in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea where he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal and 2 Overseas Bars. He was also a member of the V.F.W. in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Lewis enjoyed visiting with his family and friends and fishing.
In 1962, he married Betty Lois Smith in Chicago, Ill. She preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 2009.
Survivors include his step-children, Alesa Campbell, of Mount Airy, NC, Barbara Stoneman of Matthews, NC, George Daniel Heth of Nashville, Tenn., and Marion Gail Miller; 10 step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; cousin and caregiver, Herb Lewis of Fredericktown, Mo.; and several other cousins.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Chapel with Pastor Chuck Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
