Barbara Lou (Clapper) Lewis

Barbara Lewis, affectionately known as “Mama Lewis”, 76, of Poplar Bluff, MO passed away February 16th, 2023, surrounded by love and light.
Barbara was born on September 23, 1946, to Gus and Bessie Clapper in Alton Illinois.  She graduated from Roxanna high school , and eventually met the love of her life while attending college at SIU.
Barbara and Gary were married on Valentine’s Day in 1969.
Barbara was employed at First Midwest Bank for over 30 years.  She made many friends through work, and was loved by all.  Barbara was a gentle woman, but not one to be messed with.  In her 40s, she battled cancer, and was in remission for nearly 30 years when it returned.
Barbara loved spending time with family and friends, animals, gardening, traveling, and doing ancestry research.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Kerry Lewis, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., her son Craig(Abby) Lewis of Farmington, Mo, and her beloved sister, Erma King of Bethalto, Ill.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Gary, and her son, Geoffrey.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UCAN.
