Barbara L. Mays

Barbara L. (Thacker) Mays, 73, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Mays was born March 22, 1936 in Poplar Bluff. She was of the Baptist faith, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Mays enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, bird watching and flower gardening.

On Sept. 16, 1977 she married David L. Mays in Doniphan. He survives.

Other survivors include five children: Dorothy ""Dottie"" Scott and husband Kenny and Donald ""Duke"" Brannum, of Poplar Bluff, Mary Jo Lynn and husband Don, of Wappapello, Nola L. Scott and husband Randy and Teresa L. Gaddis and husband Russell also of Poplar Bluff; 12 grandchildren: Michael Scott and wife Kimberly, Shaunda Hite and husband Dale, Stephanie Pierce and husband Warren, Amanda Chilton and husband Jeremy, David Nolan Brannum, Tammy Holman, Wade Ray, Nicki Powell and husband Jerry, Randi Ederer and husband Joe, Wesley Scott and wife Amanda, Megan Pigg and husband Michael and Gene Nolan McNew and wife Jamie; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert L. Thacker and wife Peg, of Poplar Bluff; and special friends, J.C. and Betty Sue Harwell and Hershel and Mary Thornton, all of Poplar Bluff.

Her parents, Benjamin N. and Anna Jane (Crites) Thacker preceded Mrs. Mays in death.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be follow at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel with the Rev. Jim Hoyt officiating. Burial will be at Black Creek Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
