Bertha Rene (Graham) Spicer

July 10, 1913 — July 29, 2012

Bertha Rene Spicer, 99, of Calumet City, Ill., formerly of Butler County, died Sunday, July 29, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Spicer was born July 10, 1913, in Forest City, Ark. She was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church near Broseley, Mo., and was a homemaker. Mrs. Spicer enjoyed spending time with her family, doing missionary work and sewing.

In 1932, she was married to Roscoe Spicer. He preceded her in death in February of 1985.

Survivors include 6 children: Hazel Weathers of St. Louis, Mo, Virshelle Reed of Bolingbrook, Ill., Pauline Spicer Brown of Chicago, Ill., Willye Luckett of South Holland, Ill., Sharon Spicer Jones of Calumet City, Ill., and Deborah Brown of Broseley, Mo.; and 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Her parents, Mark Graham and Ada Ellen Forte also preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church near Broseley with The Rev. Andrew Jefferson officiating and The Rev. Johnny Williams assisting. Burial will follow at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
