Bertie Mae Burnett, 84, life-long resident of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008 at Westwood Hills Healthcare Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Burnett was born March 14, 1924 in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church. Mrs. Burnett was a homemaker while raising her 5 children, and later worked as a cook in the Poplar Bluff School System and the Regional Diagnostic Center. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

On Nov. 29, 1941 she married Mack A. Burnett. He preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1976.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Randall and her husband Ed, of Williamsville; 3 sons, Mack Burnett and his wife Sue and Dale Burnett and his wife Judy, all of Williamsville and Earl Burnett and his wife Noveda, of Cape Girardeau; 2 grandchildren who she adopted and raised after the death of her daughter, Travis Burnett and Stephanie Burnett; 8 additional grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, Thomas and Pansy (Ketchum) McIver, daughter, Sandra York (Oct. 23, 1975), sister, Lillian Nichols and 2 brothers, Everett McIver and Earl McIver preceded Mrs. Burnett in death.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Jack Woodfin officiating. Burial will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
