Bertie E. Parker

Bertie E. Houk Parker, 98, of North Little Rock, Ark. formerly of Poplar Bluff died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009 at the Lakewood Nursing and Rehab Center in North Little Rock.

Mrs. Parker was born Nov. 27, 1910 in Nacogdoches, Tex. She graduated from Bismarck High School in Bismarck, Mo and later moved to Poplar Bluff. Mrs. Parker was a long-time member of the First Christian Church, of Poplar Bluff, and had retired as bookkeeper for various businesses in Poplar Bluff including Lewis Tax Service and the Dunn Hotel. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

On July 30, 1931 she married John Houk in Farmington. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1983. On March 10, 1984 she married James Arley Parker in Sherwood, Ark. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1994.

Survivors include her only daughter, Linda Joan Farley and her husband, Thomas Lee Farley of Sherwood, Ark.; a grandson, Paul Stewart of Naples, Fla.; a great-granddaughter, Miranda Stewart of Greenville, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, William Bert and Dollie Ann (Hale) Walker also preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18th at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
