Betty Jo Allen

Betty Jo Allen, 85 of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Allen was born January 13, 1929, in Dexter, MO, to the late Charles Cleveland and Rhoda Jane Harper Wright.

On December 28, 1954, she and Thomas Franklin Allen were married in Troy, MO. He preceded her in death on February 19, 2012.

Mrs. Allen was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and had retired from education after teaching for 38 years at the Poplar Bluff Elementary and Junior High Schools. She was a member of the Junior Citizens Club, and enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and quilting.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Allen (Brenda), of Naylor; four grandchildren: Joshua, Silas, and Emily Allen, and Alex Brooks, and one great grandchild, Aurora Jane Brooks.

A daughter, Susan Sapp, great granddaughter, Harper Blakey Allen, and two brothers and two sisters, also preceded her in death.

A Graveside service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with Pastor David Stewart officiating. A gathering for family and friends will follow at First United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be directed to the Poplar Bluff School Foundation, in her honor.
