Betty Bankert, 94, of Poplar Bluff passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2015 at her Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Bankert, daughter of the late Evert C. and Etta Martha (Oskins) Phillips, was born Jan. 16, 1921 in Evansville, Ind. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a super homemaker. For several years she served as a volunteer at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center. Mrs. Bankert enjoyed bowling and playing golf and bridge. She also loved being outdoors working in her flower garden.
On July 19, 1943, she married George M. Bankert in New Haven, Conn. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include four nieces, Jacqueline Hanes of Boonville, Ind., Ann Doan of Evansville, Ind., Jana Murphy of Raleigh, NC and Sherrie Roberts of Hopkinton, NH and two nephews, Donald Phillips of Leesburg, Fla. and Ronald Brewster of Mustang, Okla.
A visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial following at noon. Father William Hodgson will officiate. A private burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
