Betty Jean (Johnson) Buchanan

Betty Jean Buchanan, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away, Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Buchanan was born Aug. 16, 1931 in Stoddard County, Mo. to the late Roy Franklin and Ora C. Reese Johnson. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Buchanan was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a talented self-taught artist. She enjoyed music, woodworking, cross-stitching and camping on Current River. She especially loved spring and planting flowers.

On Jan. 18, 1958, she married Clyde Buchanan in Hernando, Miss. He survives.

Other survivors include four children: Donna Moss (Wayne), of Slater, Mo., Paul Cookson (Deborah) of Shepherdsville, Ky., Cheryl Schweitzer (Rod), of Jefferson City, Mo. and Kevin C. Buchanan (Michelle), of Poplar Bluff; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Ralph Johnson and R.C. Johnson also preceded Mrs. Buchanan in death.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. David Stewart will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn section of the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
