Betty Biggs (Tibbs) Jeffress

February 2, 1921 — May 17, 2012

Betty Biggs Jeffress, 91, a resident of Poplar Bluff since 1947, died Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Westwood Hills Healthcare Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Jeffress was born Feb. 2, 1921 in Dexter, Mo. She was a graduate of San Diego High School, and attended Southeast Missouri State College. Mrs. Jeffress was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a former Girl Scout Leader, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority as well as P.E.O. Chapter DG, a women's philanthropic and education organization. Mrs. Jeffress, along with her late husband J.B. Jeffress, were part owners of the family owned Barnes Grocery Co. She enjoyed working in her yard, fishing, hunting and most all playing golf.

On Jan. 31, 1942, she married J.B. Jeffress. Mr. Jeffress preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 2000.

Survivors include two daughters, Sondra Lee Morris and husband Charles of Smyrna, Tenn. and Jaybie Copeland of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandsons, Jay Malinoski of Marine, Ill. and Jeffrey Copeland of Cordova, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Shelby Malinoski, T.J. Malinoski, Jacob Malinoski, Caleb Copeland, Madison Copeland and Luke Copeland.

Her parents, Hearl and Lila (Biggs) Tibbs also preceded Mrs. Jeffress in death.

A graveside service and burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Debra Tracy officiating.
