Betty Looney

Betty Jo Looney, 82, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center after a battle with lung cancer.

She was born on April 6, 1936 to Oscar and Bessie (Barton) Johnson in Oats, MO. She married Robert White on August 18, 1951 in Poplar Bluff and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1992.

On April 2, 2001 she married Jerry Looney in Poplar Bluff. While living in St. Louis she drove a school bus and was President of the Teamsters 316 Union. Betty was very supportive, inspirational, and loved the children that she had on her bus. After moving to Poplar Bluff, she drove for Shady Grove School and volunteered at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.

Betty was a member of the Fellowship General Baptist Church, Eastern Star, and an auxiliary member of the American Legion.

She enjoyed painting, reading the Bible and murder mystery books, helping people, enthusiastically canning an assortment of foods for her family, and was an amazing holiday cook specializing in the best cookies. Most of all she enjoyed sewing and quilting. While her daughters were growing up she sewed dresses and prom dresses for them. She will be most remembered by her sense of humor and steadfast harmonious personality

Betty is survived by her husband, Jerry Looney, of the home; four children, Julie (Steve) Crawshaw of Stafford, VA, James (Sherri) White of San Antonio, TX, JoAnne (Daryl) Armstrong of Houston, TX, and Ruth Cunningham of Centralia, MO; eight grandchildren, Valerie White, Joshua Crawshaw, Benjamin (Jennie) White, Andy Crawshaw, Austin Armstrong, Ali Armstrong, April Littrell, David Quick; eight great-grandchildren, William Pieper, Emma Littrell, Tori White, Abigail Goodwin, Molly Goodwin, Ezra Goodwin, Zion White, Junia White; one brother, Hobart Johnson of St. Louis, MO; and two sisters, Elvadean White, Lavera Gallaher of Black, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, and two brothers, Robert White and Gene Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff.

Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 am in the Moore Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Byron Beck officiating. Burial will take place in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
