Billy Joe Anderson

Billy Joe Anderson, 80, of Poplar Bluff, MO passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026, at home in the comfort of his recliner.

Billy was born on July 31, 1945, to Harrison and Alpha (Keele) Anderson in Williamsville, Missouri. He married Mary "Linda" Forness on April 10, 1971, in Labadie, Missouri.

Billy was a proud member of the United States Air Force. He entered active duty in 1965 and served in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of Sargent and received the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal during his time in the Air Force. He was a member of the VFW #6477, AMVETS #29, and the Vietnam Veterans #1056, all of Poplar Bluff. Billy was very musically inclined; he played the guitar, mandolin, banjo, and fiddle. He was also a talented singer and enjoyed visiting nursing homes and the VA to bless others with his voice. Billy was a lifetime member of Agee Fellowship Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed trout fishing, watching pro wrestling, and tinkering with his things. His greatest joy in life was spending time with family, especially his beloved wife.

Billy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Anderson; two sons, William Anderson and Roy (Shannon) Anderson; sister, Betty Bowman; two brothers, Eldon and Butch (Judy) Anderson; two grandsons, Jake and Ben Anderson; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Alpha; three brothers, Roney, Ben, and Melvin Anderson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 11:00am-1:00pm at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral service will follow beginning at 1:00pm with Pastor Jim Schremp officiating. Burial will take place at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
