Bobby Gean Gowen

Bobby Gean Gowen, 74, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Gowen was born Feb. 7, 1940 in Poplar Bluff to the late Ole and Martha Scott Gowen. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post 153 in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Gowen had retired after many years as a welder and pipe fitter. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal's fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.

In 1959, he married Dorothy Carleen Gowen in Poplar Bluff. She survives of Poplar Bluff. In 1981, he married the former Hazel White in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death in 2008.

Survivors include nine children: Sandy (Kenneth) Urich and Mike Gowen, all of Poplar Bluff, Sonia (Larry) Johnson, of Paragould, Ark., Kenny Gowen and Melissa (Steve) Keith, all of Poplar Bluff, Susan Gowen, of St. Louis, Mo., Ginnie (Immanuel) McLaughlin, of Springfield, Mo., Bobbie (Jeromy) Hafford, of Columbia, Mo. and Ricky Gowen and significant other, Keisha Cook, also of Poplar Bluff; 19 Grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Ann McFarland, of Doniphan, Mo.

A sister, Vina Mae Shumate and three brothers, Raymond Gowen, Lee Roy Gowen and Jamie Gowen also preceded Mr. Gowen in death.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. David Thomas officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
