Boyd Morgan Smith

Boyd Morgan Smith, 90, of Traverse City, Mich., formerly of Royal Oak, Mich. and Poplar Bluff, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.
Born July 30, 1919, in Ripley County, he was the son of the late James R. and Jennie (Carmen) Smith. He graduated from Poplar Bluff High School.
On October 30, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio, he married the former Dorothy Imogene Powell.
A proud veteran, Boyd served with the United States Army during WWII in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
While living in the Royal Oak area, he was employed by Ford Motor Tractor in Romeo, where he worked for 33 years.
Boyd was a life member and former Worshipful Master of the Royal Oak Masonic Lodge #464. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star #392.
He loved bowling, horseshoes, golf, playing the piano and singing. Boyd was a tenor for the Ford Motor Barbershop Quartet and sang in his church choir.
He shared many joys in life with his family and friends, but he was most proud of his sixty-seven year marriage to his beloved, Dorothy. He was a friend to many and was deeply loved and admired by his family. Boyd will be fondly remembered for his friendly smile and thoughtful ways.
He is survived by his loving family; wife, Dorothy I. Smith of Traverse City; children, Fred E. (Jackie) Smith of Madison Heights, Mich., Gary L. Smith of Leonard, Mich., Boyd M. ""Sonny"" (Linda Sue) Smith, Jr. of Southfield, Mich. and Linda Kay (Leonard) Fawcett of Suttons Bay, Mich.; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jasper ""Jap"" Cochran of Poplar Bluff along with several nieces and nephews.
Boyd was preceded in death by his identical twin brother, Lloyd and other siblings, Loren, John, Bill, Claude, Mary, Maude, Nan and Margaret.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Monday, Nov. 23rd at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel with Dr. William Vail officiating. A Masonic Service will then be observed under the auspices of the Poplar Bluff Masonic Lodge #209. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Team will follow at Lone Hill Cemetery in Butler County.
