Brenda Sue Hyatt Curtis was born July 21, 1945 in Hazard, Kentucky to Virgil and Bonnie Hyatt.
She spent her childhood in Indiana and graduated from Fairmount High School in Fairmount, Indiana.
Brenda loved the Lord and gave herself to ministry and the study of God's word at an early age.
She met the love of her life, Jerry Curtis, while pursuing this path and they were married November 20th, 1963. To this union four children were born; Jerry W. Curtis, Jr. (Jed), Shelley Curtis Barley, John M. Curtis, and Jovita Curtis Smith. In 1975 the Curtis family met a life-long friend who became an honorary "daughter", Penny Bowers.
Brenda followed her husband to the various churches he pastored in Indiana, Montana, Missouri, Mississippi, and Maine. She served by his side and at one point also served as church secretary.
She was especially proud that her children love the Lord and follow in their own ministries.
After Jerry's passing, January 6, 2018, she split her time between her homes in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Diggins, Missouri. She spent that time enjoying her hobbies of drawing, photography, puzzles, and she loved working on her computer. She looked forward to her outings with her grandson Jack with whom she had formed a special bond. Brenda was a life-learner who enjoyed learning new things; especially where the Bible was concerned.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband Jerry, daughters Jovita Smith (Marty) and Shelly Barley (Dave). She is survived by her sons Jed Curtis (Cheryl) of Presque Isle, Maine and John Curtis (Marcia) of Diggins, Missouri, and Penny Bowers (David) of Diggins, Missouri, sons-in-law Marty Smith of Lake Charles, Louisiana and David Barley of Jonesboro, Arkansas, sister Linda Scott (Tom) of Marion, Indiana, Sisters-in-Law Dee Boller-Curtis Burgess and Debbe Curtis Kincy. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren: Emma (Devon), Deklan, Amanda, Chad (Courtney), Justin, Tyler (Alex, Chris (Lara), Derek (Claire), Haleigh (Joe), Whitney (John), and Jack. Her 12 great-grandchildren: Tristan, Isley, Audrey, William, Annalee, Sara, Emma, Quinn, Nolan, Warren, Jovi, and Henry. Grieving her loss are also her nieces, nephews, many friends from across the country, and her beloved dog Minnie.
