Carl E. Marler, of Gray Summit, Mo. died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at St. John's Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo.
Mr. Marler was born Oct. 26, 1949 in Peach Orchard, Mo. He was a corrections officer for Missouri Eastern Correctional Center in Pacific, Mo., and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he was received a Good Conduct Award; Meritorious Unit Commendation (Ribbon and Bar); National Defense Service Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon; Navy E Ribbon; Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon; and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Mr. Marler enjoyed playing pool and motorcycles.
Survivors include two children: Carla Lynn Morris and Charles A. ""Chase"" Marler both of Piedmont, Mo.; the mother of his children, Sherry Marler Lawson of Piedmont; four grandchildren, Emily Mae Morris, Nathan Michael Wilson, Kaylee Jade Marler and Raylie Lynn Marler; a sister, Shirley Stinson and husband Ron of Poplar Bluff; a brother, Bill Marler and wife Connie of Poplar Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, Alvin and Lola (Davis) Marler, sister, Wilma Jamboretz and brother, Don Marler preceded him in death.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Charles Buck officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Shain Memorial Cemetery in Ash Hill, Mo.
