Carl D. Mitchell, of Wappapello formerly of St. Genevieve died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Mitchell was born Oct. 4, 1941 in St. Louis. He was of the Protestant faith, and had retired as a baker from Wonder Bread Company. Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict; former member of V.F.W. Post 2593 in Arnold; lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 3416 in Wappapello; and member of Eagles Club 4066 also in Wappapello. Mr. Mitchell enjoyed boating and fishing.
On May 5, 1961 he married Elaine Padgett in St. Louis. She survives.
Other survivors include his children: David Earl Mitchell and wife Linda Sue and Carlton Wayne Mitchell and wife Debbie, all of Pacific, Mo., James ""Jimbo"" Cavin Mitchell of Festus and Thomas Harrison Mitchell and wife Shelly of St. Genevieve; five grandchildren: Tameca Love Carson, Lundyn Sixx Mitchell, Skyler Rain Howe, Riley Mason Mitchell and Lydia Elizabeth Mitchell; great-grandson, Caliph Nasr Jackson; sisters, Violet Miskel Matthews and husband Walter of Dexter, Barbara Lee Webber and Roberta Sue Childers and husband John, all of Wappapello, Estelle Audalene Barks and husband Danny of Dexter, Wilda Jean Crawford and husband Johnny of Ky., Rita Jane Linn and husband Dave of Yellville, Ark., Debra Kay Conrad and husband Paul of Granite City, Ill. and Marilyn Darlene Nolan and husband Larry of Portageville; brothers: Gary Wayne Mitchell and wife Lisa of Potosi and Charles Ray Mitchell and wife Cindy of Flippin, Ark.
His parents, Loren Thomas and Audrey (Tolbert) Mitchell and brothers, Eugene Thomas Mitchell, Donald Lee Mitchell and Jesse Clifford Mitchell preceded Mr. Mitchell in death.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Monday at Wappapello Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wappapello Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lucille Hausser officiating. Interment of Mr. Mitchell's ashes with full military honors will be at 2:30 P.M. Friday at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
