Carl Vernon Rommel, 82, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Cedergate in Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Rommel was born on August 4, 1930 in Wappapello to Victor Leonard and Violet Lucy Withrow Rommel. They preceded him in death.
On October 1, 1949, he married Nadine Powell in Piggott, AR, they were married for 54 years before she passed on August 25, 2003. Mr. Rommel married Barbara Phillips Dodson on May 29, 2004 in Rombauer, she survives of the home.
Mr. Rommel was of the Baptist faith, past owner of ""The Deep Freeze"" in Poplar Bluff, a member of the American Legion Post 153, Am Vets Post 29, Eagles 3730, and Elks 2452, where he served as Exhaulted Ruler 3 times. He retired from the Missouri Army National Guard after 20 years, and served locally with the Honor Guard. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard, camping and dancing.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter Deborah Rommel, of Jefferson City, MO; granddaughter, Autumn Bree; great grandchildren; Douglas Alan Cramer, and Valerie Grace Coleman, of Columbia, MO; brothers, Clarence and Larry Rommel; sisters, Grace Elledge, Sally Elder, and Ila Brower, of Poplar Bluff, many nieces and nephews; and 5 stepchildren.
Mr. Rommel was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine; a son Carl Vernon Rommel Jr.; brothers, August, Joe, Barnie, Paul and Walter Rommel; and a sister Edna Hornbeck.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. An Elks Service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the chapel, followed by a funeral service with Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at City Cemetery.
