POPLAR BLUFF

In Loving Memory of Carol Lee Brandenburg

October 1, 1940 – October 1, 2026

Carol Lee (Malsom) Brandenburg passed away peacefully at her home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, on October 1, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. Born on October 1, 1940, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Carol lived a life defined by love, kindness, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community.

Carol married the love of her life, Gary K. Brandenburg, on June 26, 1962. Together, they shared 59 beautiful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories before his passing. Their devotion to one another and to their family was an example of enduring love that will continue to inspire those who knew them.

Carol was a loving homemaker and her family was always her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into creating a warm, welcoming home where everyone felt loved and cared for. Her love extended far beyond her own family, touching the lives of countless children and families throughout the community. A constant volunteer in the schools throughout her life, Carol was especially passionate about supporting children. She spent many years volunteering in the library at Sacred Heart School, where promoting childhood literacy was a cause especially dear to her heart. She was also a strong advocate against bullying, believing every child deserved to feel safe, valued, and accepted. The children loved her, and her dedication to their well-being left a lasting impression on generations of students.

Carol and Gary were devoted supporters of their children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to be present for the important moments in their lives. From sporting events and concerts to recitals, graduations, and horse events, they were always there, cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm. Their love extended to every member of the family, including the four-legged ones. They happily welcomed their family’s animals into their home whenever needed, quickly becoming attached to their granddaughter’s horse and also caring for her when necessary. Their home was truly a place where everyone, human or animal, was welcome.

Carol was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and her faith was reflected in the kindness, generosity, and compassion she showed to others throughout her life.

She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her gentle guidance, her unwavering love, and the care she so freely gave to everyone around her. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the children she encouraged, the friendships she cherished, and the countless lives she touched through simple acts of kindness.

Carol’s life was a beautiful testament to the power of love, and she will be missed more than words can express.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary K. Brandenburg, and her parents, Anton and Rose (Lowenstein) Malsom.

She is survived by her daughters, Caren (Tony Voet) Brandenburg of Wichita, Kansas, and Debra Robertson of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; her grandchildren, Peyton Robertson of St. Louis, Missouri, and Nicholas Voet of Kansas City, Missouri; her brothers, Ray (Rita) Malsom of Dodge Center, Minnesota, and Paul (Debbie) Malsom of Nevada, Iowa; her sisters, Lori (Richard) Schultz of Helena, Montana, and Diana (Jack) VonWald of Aberdeen, South Dakota; along with several nieces and nephews.

Her family was her greatest accomplishment, her deepest joy, and the lasting legacy of a life so beautifully lived.
