Carol D. Powers Hess

Carol D. Hess, 71, of Neosho, Mo., formerly of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at The Villages of Jackson Creek Memory Care in Independence, Mo.

Carol, the daughter of the late Jess and Ellen Sharp Powers, was born Feb. 19, 1945 in Splitlog, Mo. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poplar Bluff and had retired from the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Poplar Bluff Regional Center as Assistant Director. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandson, reading, listening to music and traveling.

On Oct. 26, 1973, she married Paul F. Hess in Joplin, Mo. He preceded her in death in 2012.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy (Bret) Ladewig of Blue Springs, Mo.; her grandson, Davin Ladewig of Blue Springs, Mo.; a sister, Reatha Dickey of Springfield, Mo.; and a brother, John Powers of Neosho, Mo.

The visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 a.m. Father William Hodgson will officiate. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Lung Association, 1118 Hampton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63139-3139 or to the hospice of their choice.
