Carroll Eugene Harwell

Carroll E. Harwell, 74, a local Poplar Bluff business owner, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Harwell, the son of the late Fred Martin Harwell and Gertrude (Fisher) Harwell Birdsong, was born April 8, 1941 in Poplar Bluff. He was a member of Living Word Baptist Church and had retired in 2011 as owner and operator of P.B. Auto Sales. Mr. Harwell loved spending time with his family, working outside around his pond and property and being outdoors with his dogs. He will be remembered most by all who knew him as someone who went out of his way to help anyone in need, whether it be bush hogging land, lending trucks and equipment to businesses or just offering a kind word on a bad day. He will be missed.


On July 30, 1959, he married the former Shirley Berry in Poplar Bluff. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two children: Daniel (Trena) Harwell of Poplar Bluff and Tonya (Richard) Jones of Qulin; three grandchildren: Justin Harwell, Derek (Callie) Harwell and Aaron Jones; a great grandson, Thomas Harwell; five sisters: Velma Carter, Betty Pyle, Barbara Lundry, Lana Adair and Darlene McCoach all of Poplar Bluff; and three brothers: Fred Harwell of Spring Branch, Texas, J.C. Harwell and Jerry Harwell of Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. David Groves officiating and the Rev. Donnie Emmons assisting. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
