Cecil Roy Million, 84, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Million was born October 29, 1925 in Poplar Bluff. He was retired from the United States Postal Service in 1973 and was a member of the Fellowship General Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family and his pug dog, Manny. During retirement, he thoroughly enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading and bantering daily with his friends at his ""McDonald's office.""
The oldest of five children, he graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1944. Mr. Million served in the U.S. Army 69th Infantry Division during World War II from January 1944 to May 1946. He received two Bronze Stars, the WWII Victory Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, two Overseas Bars, and a Combat Infantry Badge. Stationed in England and Germany, his infantry unit was among the first to meet the Russians on the Elb River and to liberate the Dachau Concentration Camp survivors.
He was married to Evelyn Rainwater. She preceded him in death on March 15, 1990. On Jan. 4, 1991, he married Alma Ward. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, W. Dean Million and wife Cindy of Poplar Bluff, Rev. Stephen Roy Million and wife Judy of Lee's Summit; step-son, Roger Ward and wife Emily of Rock Hill; six grandchildren, Timothy Million and wife Karen of Houston, Tex., Michelle Million-Worley of Poplar Bluff, Lauren Maberry of Lee's Summit, Stacey Million of Poplar Bluff, Kyle Million of Poplar Bluff and Logan Million of Lee's Summit; five great-grandchildren, Chloe & Carley Maberry of Lee's Summit, Rayni Worley of Poplar Bluff, and Samuel and Vivian Ward of Rock Hill; and two brothers, Alvin Million of Baltimore, Md. and Paul Henry Million of Bland.
Preceding Mr. Million in death were his parents, Henry Clay and Oma Million, and two sisters, Wilma McGath and Lois Wood.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 7th at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8th at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Byron Beck officiating and Rev. Stephen Million officiating the graveside service. Burial with full military honors will be at the graveside service at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
