Charles Leroy Barriner, 89, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on November 1, 2015, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family members.
Mr. Barriner was born on November 16, 1925 in the Hendrickson Area. He was a member of the Mt Zion Southern Missionary Baptist Church in Williamsville and was a veteran of the US Army during World War II.
He formerly worked at the Florsheim Shoe Factory. Mr. Barriner was an avid lifelong St Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed his retirement years in the Senior Bowling Leagues.
On September 3, 1946, he married Gertrude Louise Alexander. She preceded him in death on August 4, 1980. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth [Floraettia) Barriner, Larry (Sue Ann) Barriner of Poplar Bluff; four granddaughters, Christina Ruesler, Regina {Ron Jr.) Hedrick, Larrie (Joseph) Sowells and Lyrra (Josh) Stucker all of Poplar Bluff; five great grandchildren, Riley Charles and Reese Matthew Hedrick, Grace Louise and Noah Edward Ruesler and Zylan Alexander Barriner Stucker of Poplar Bluff; and two sisters, Hazel Alexander of Poplar Bluff and Majorie Swift of Odessa, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur Barriner and Pearl Shamblin Barriner, two brothers, William Hobert Barriner and Alvle Ray Barriner and two sisters, Mae Rickman and Ruby Hodapp.
Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. The Rev Robert Edwards will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in the Mt Zion Cemetery.
