Clarence Edward Jones, 73, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Mr. Jones was born April 13, 1939 in Cairo, Ill. He was a member of Brown Chapel A.M.E, Church, and had retired as owner and operator of a cleaning service. Mr. Jones was a member of Goldstar Masonic Lodge #168; a member of SEMO Civic and Social Club; and was President of Wheatley Historic Preservation Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and being active in the community.
On Sept. 9, 1967, he married Dorothy Clark in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2010.
Survivors include five stepchildren: Jean Jones, of Sikeston, Mo., Jimmie Reed, of Poplar Bluff, William L. Reed, of St. Louis, Mo., and Walter E. Reed, and Charles D. Reed,both of Poplar Bluff; his adopted mother, Vera Hillis Arnold, of Swansea, Ill.; five grandchildren: Gina Clark, Donna Clayborne, Michelle Clark-Dismuke, Jamie Reed and Jason Reed; several great-grandchildren; three sisters: Vera Watson (John), of Kansas City, Mo., LeeAnna Lee (Fred), of Swansea, Ill., and Louise Williams (Charles), of Colorado Springs, Col.; four brothers: Oris Robinson and Harold Robinson (Janice), all of St. Louis, Mo., Leroy Arnold, of Flint, Mich., and Freddie ""Doug"" Robinson, of Kansas City, Mo.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
His adopted father, Matthew Arnold, birth father, Rosell Greenwood, birth mother, Lurlean West Robinson, great-grandson, Michael Clayborne, three sisters, Rosetta Robinson, Brenda Robinson and Ethel Arnold and brother, Eddie Robinson also preceded Mr. Jones in death.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 5th at Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church in Poplar Bluff, with a Masonic Service following at 11:30 a.m. The funeral service will begin at noon with the Rev. William Harrold officiating. Burial will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
