Cora Lee Pennington, 81, of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday July 21, 2013 at Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Pennington was born August 11, 1931 in Butler County, to Ernest and Bertha Jaco Whitmer, they preceded her in death.
On September 7 1948, she married Vernon Pennington, Sr. in Piggott, AR. He died on October 16, 1995.
Mrs. Pennington retired from JC Penney after 27 years. She was the manager of the children's department, in which she served the parents, as well as the children of the surrounding communities.
She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the Lord and for several years played the piano for Twin Spring Baptist Church, where she was a member. She grew up in the church and also raised her children there. She volunteered at First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, and loved life and simply "" going and socializing"".
Survivors include her children Darlene (Richard) Wright, of Poplar Bluff, Dina (Bill) James, of Doniphan, and Vernon Pennington Jr. of Poplar Bluff, five grandchildren; Chastidy Sturgeon, Penne James, Melissa Frances, Vernon Pennington III and Nick James, six great grandchildren; Brittany, Jayden, Kadeigh, Lexie, Haylee, and Levi, 2 sisters Betty Murray of St. Charles, and Shirley Phelps of Poplar Bluff, and a special friend of the family, Peggy Hall.
Visitation will be from 6 ? 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. Funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m., at the chapel with Rev. Roger Mayo officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
