Daisy Merle Whitener
July 24, 1922 — November 15, 2014
Merle Whitener, 92, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.
Mrs. Whitener was born July 24, 1922 in Annapolis, Mo. Before retiring, she had worked as a nurse's aide at Brandon and Lucy Lee Hospitals. She was an animal lover and spent her entire retirement taking care of stray cats.
Survivors include a daughter Brenda Divine; a son, Gary Whitener; four grandchildren: Rusty Divine, Steve Divine, Michael Whitener and Mandy Whitener; two great-grandchildren: Cyndi Keele and Mason Divine; one great-great-grandson, Riley Keele; two step great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Mary Bagwell and Wanda Hoffman.
At Merle's request there will be a private visitation and graveside service. Burial will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
