Dale Calvin Parish

November 18, 1940 — May 22, 2025

Poplar Bluff, Missouri

Dale Calvin Parish, 84, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025. He was born on November 18, 1940, to George Parish and Rebecca Merryman in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Dale was raised in Blytheville, Arkansas where he was known for his quick wit and adventurous spirit. He was likely responsible for giving officers at the local police department many grey hairs with his drag races and youthful schemes in his teenage years. After high school, Dale chose to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1958.

Following his honorable discharge, Dale enrolled at Arkansas State University. During a trip home, he met the love of his life, Betty Sue Jaco. After a whirlwind three-month romance, they married on March 21, 1964. Together they built a love story for the ages, settling in Memphis, TN, where Dale worked full time as a master carpenter. They raised five children and created a life filled with hard work, love, and laughter.

Dale was a brilliant craftsman, respected by his peers not just for his skill, but for his integrity. He held elected offices in the Carpenters Local Union, where he advocated for the rights of his fellow workers. Passionate about education, he also taught standard and vocational courses at Shelby State College, inspiring countless students with his love of math, geometry, and the trades.

In later years, Dale deepened his knowledge and explored the Masons. Raised on May 24, 2007, as a member of the Memphis Masonic Lodge 118, he served in multiple roles for nearly 18 years, ultimately achieving the honor of Worshipful Master.

Dale is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Betty, as well as his daughter Penny Parish and grandson Josh Parish. He passed peacefully, surrounded by love.

He is survived by his four children, Kim (Parish) Thronberry, Lori Vincent (Brian), Steve Parish, and Courtney Winter (Adam); nine grandchildren, Kristen Browder, Stephanie Atkison, Tyler Thronberry, Jacob Vincent, Kate Vincent, Justin Parish, Owen Winter, Olivia Winter, and Cannon Winter; three great-grandchildren, Kaylin, Aubrey, and William Atkison. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family.
