Dan K. Cayo, 86, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, March 25, 2016 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Mr. Cayo, the son of the late John Joseph and Dora Pitt Cayo, was born Nov. 24, 1929 in Superior, Wisc. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Navy Occupation Service Medal. Mr. Cayo served as Post Master at Neelyville and Doniphan, where he retired in 1985. He was a member of The Gideons International and was active in prison ministries. One of the greatest highlight's of his life was taking a mission trip to Nicaragua. Mr. Cayo enjoyed spending time with his family, preaching, reading, woodworking, and math.
On Jan. 17, 1954, he married Phyllis Ann Price in San Francisco, Calif. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include five children: Joy Robin Harlow-Chalton (Simon) of London, England, Ruth Cirrincione (Vince) of Denver, Colo., Linda Smalley (Denis) of Alexandria, Va., Beth Cayo of Knoxville, Tenn. and Maria Fugate (Brien) of Poplar Bluff'; 21 grandchildren: 30 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tommy Glass.
A daughter, Rhoda Lynn Cayo; a son, Kenneth John Cayo; two grandchildren, Kimberly McClure and Timothy Bailly; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters also preceded Mr. Cayo in death.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral chapel with Dr. William Vail officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place at 3 p.m. Friday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
