Dawsey William Rice, 82, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Malden.
Mr. Rice was born Nov. 22, 1927 in Bernie, Mo. He was a member of Cornerstone Tabernacle, and had retired from North West Glass Co. in Seattle, Wash. Mr. Rice was also a former member of the Missouri National Guard. He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, card games and softball and watching all types of sports.
On June 16, 2001 he married June Winberry in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2006.
Survivors include 3 children, Brenda Walker of Beaverton, Oreg., Dawsey ""D.J."" Rice, Jr. and wife Dede of Buckley, Wash. and Sherry Taylor and husband Bill of Dexter; 9 grandchildren, Milton Edison, Lisa Edison, John Rice, Nathan Rice, Kerri Rice, Faith Rice, Candie Robinson, Whitney Taylor and Marsha Vogler; 7 great grandchildren, Laloni Edison, Joy Rice, Kaydence Rice, Alexis Robinson, Gabriel Robinson, Donald Vogler and Elizabeth Vogler; a daughter-in-law, Marva Rice of Kennett; a son-in-law, Roger Poe of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Wilma McBroom and husband Darrell of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and 5 brothers, Leroy Rice of Mich., Bud Rice and wife Velta of Little Rock, Ark., Donnie Rice and wife Charlotte of Centralia, Wash., Bobbie Rice and wife Jean of Auburn, Wash. and Frankie Rice of Poplar Bluff.
His parents, Troy and Ruth (Layton) Rice daughter, Debbie Poe, son, Jerry Rice and granddaughters, Grace Rice and Melissa Poe also preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel with the Rev. Larry Burdine officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
