Dennis Wayne Hays, 57, of Wappapello, passed away, Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Hays was born March 6, 1956 in Paducah, Ky. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was an asphalt worker. Mr. Hays had previously worked for 12 years at Breyers Ice Cream Company in Sikeston, Mo. Mr. Hays enjoyed tinkering with and fixing things, watching western movies, collecting guns and knives, fishing and boat riding. He was also a veteran of the US Army.
On Sept. 23, 1989 he married Sheila Campbell in Sikeston, Mo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three children: Stephen Polley of Sikeston, Mo., Christopher Polley of Calhoun, Ga. and Angela Hays of Dexter, Mo.; four grandchildren: Davin Hays, Katherine Polley, Camryn Polley and Memphis Polley; a sister, Mary Jane Stroud of Sikeston; three brothers, Everett ""Junior"" Hays of Illinois, Michael Hays of Ellington, Mo. and Steven Hays also of Sikeston; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, Everett and Nola Mae Hampton Hays and a sister, Shirley Dixon preceded Mr. Hays in death.
A gathering will begin at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Wappapello, Mo. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel with Pastor Buck Cruse officiating. Interment of ashes with full military honors will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
