Dolores ‘Dee’ June Elledge, 88, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Litchfield, Ill. passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center
Dee, the daughter of Virgil and Edith Huddleston Miller was born June 10, 1931, in Gillespie, Ill. She was an active and faithful member of The Bluff Church in Poplar Bluff. Dee married William Clinton Elledge on Jan. 12, 1953, in Litchfield.
Dee was a woman of strong faith in her Saviour, Jesus Christ. Wherever she and her husband Clinton went to church, she was involved in serving the church. From working with preschoolers to senior adults and even set-up at a mobile church, Dee was a servant. Her faith was the core of who she was.
Dee and Clinton loved their children and grandchildren. They move to Florida in 1985 to be near their two oldest grandsons who’d moved to Florida a year earlier. They were able to watch the boys grow to adulthood.
In 2005, they moved to Poplar Bluff to live near their younger son and his family. They enjoyed getting to see the youngest grand-kids grow up, graduate from high school and college, and
marry.
Grandma Dee will best be remembered as a helper. She cared for her great-grandsons when their Mom returned to work. As much as she was able, she cared for all of her great-
grandchildren at various times. As much as she loved her own children and grandchildren, her 6 great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. She participated in Nerf battles, pretend play, read thousands of books--whatever the great-grand-kids wanted to do!
Dee was a great friend. She kept up with people’s birthdays, anniversaries, and their lives. If you were a friend, you were a friend for life.
The running joke in the family was that Dee was always early. If a family dinner began at Noon, Grandma would arrive at least 30 minutes early. Dee died two hours before midnight the eve of her 68th wedding anniversary. We think she wanted to be early for the party awaiting her in heaven.
Surviving are her son, David (Luann) Elledge of Poplar Bluff; daughter-in-law Catherine Elledge, of Edgewater, Fla.; four grandchildren, Erik (Samantha) Elledge, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Lauren Hasanov, Lyndsee (Brandon) Moon and Luke (Leslie) Elledge, all of Poplar Bluff; six great-grandchildren: Skylar Elledge, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Samuel and Alex Hasanov, Emmalyne and Oliver Moon and William Elledge, all of Poplar Bluff; and a sister Carol Keeley of Benld, Ill.
In addition to her husband and parents Dee is preceded in death by a son, William L. ‘Rusty’ Elledge, grandson Aaron Elledge, sister Maxine Bodi and brother Gary Miller.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 10 am Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with a Celebration of Life Service following at 11 am. Her son the Rev. David Elledge will officiate. Inurnment will take place in Illinois at a later date.
Memorials may be made to The Bluff Church, 2781 N Westwood Blvd., Poplar Bluff, MO 63901.
