Donald Lee Jones

Donald (Don) Jones, son of the late William Harrison and Jessie Clark Jones, was born on December 23, 1928, in Fisk, Missouri, and departed this life on June 7, 2025, at the Veterans Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the age of 96 years.

Don was a 1947 graduate of Fisk High School in Fisk, Missouri. Don was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Korean War. He retired from the Poplar Bluff Housing Authority as maintenance supervisor in 1988. He was a past member of the Poplar Bluff Elks Lodge. Don enjoyed golfing in his earlier years and later working in his wood shop creating many treasured keepsakes for his children and grandchildren. If you were to drive by his home, you were likely to see him out on his golf cart riding around his property. He attended Ash Hill Baptist Church before his health declined.

On December 23, 1947 (on Don’s birthday) he was united in marriage to Charlene Dowdy in Dexter, Missouri. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2008.

He is survived by his children, Tina (Ken) Shirrell of Poplar Bluff, Gary (Karen) Jones of Harviell, Missouri, Belinda (Roy) Winters of Poplar Bluff, Becky (Steve) Ijames of Springfield, Missouri, Terry (Cindy) Jones of Poplar Bluff, and Rick Jones of Wappapello, Missouri. Also surviving are grandchildren Jeff (Amanda) Jones, Heather Shirrell (Justin) Jones, Christal Jones (Shawn) Boyd, Chelsey Jones (TJ) Davis, Ashley Aden (Tim) Wagoner, Aaron (Rachel) Aden, Melissa Ijames (Blake) Will, Chris (Bayli) Ijames, Steve (Danya) Jones and Tayler Jones, plus twenty great grandchildren and several nieces.

Other than by his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Isobel Jones Clark, and two brothers, Harold Jones and Willis Jones, and one son in law, Terry Aden.

A private military graveside service will be held at Ash Hill Cemetery in Fisk, Missouri on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 11:00am with Reverend Gary Hancock officiating.

The family would like to acknowledge the excellent health care given to their Father by the Veterans Hospital Hospice Wing Nursing Staff during Don’s last days and Dr. Ken Li and staff of St Francis Clinic of Poplar Bluff for the long-term health care over the years.
