Doris Evelyn Cummings

Doris Evelyn Cummings, 87, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Doris, the daughter of the late Chester and Arcadia Young Lindsay, was born April 9, 1930 in Bernie, Mo. She was a member of Calvary General Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Doris enjoyed going to church, singing in the choir, singing with her husband and singing in the family quartet. She also enjoyed flea marketing with her daughter and sisters after church on Sundays. Doris loved flowers and caring for her birds.

On Dec. 24, 1944, she married Graydon Edward Bagby. He preceded her in death. She later married Lebern Eugene Cummings on Aug. 13, 1976 in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2014.

Survivors include three children, Joan Dale (Don) Everts of Poplar Bluff, Janet Marie (Harold) Green of Hardinsburg, Ky. and Brenda Jean Stilwell of Poplar Bluff; a step-daughter, Maryann (Scot) Hampton of Irving, Texas; six grandchildren: Debbie Everts, Miranda Humphrey, David Green, Mackenzie Thompson, Laura (Darryl) Bogert and Gary Stilwell; 17 great-grandchildren: Dalton, Doni and Jaydon Everts, Sylvia Hiller, Meagan Smith, David Cobbs, Alexis and Damarus Stilwell, Christina and Stephanie Shelton, Jesse and Wyatt Humphrey, Patience and Chyann Green, Makayla and Ashton Thompson and Jacob Stilwell; four great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, Louis (Carol) Lindsay of Fisk; and three sisters, Wilma Rhodes of Fisk and Virginia Cochran and Joyce (Arvel) Billington of Poplar Bluff.

A daughter Judith Elaine, two sisters, Mary Lindsay and Dorothy Stroud and five brothers, Leonard, Donnie, Chester Jr., Kenny and Jack Lindsay also preceded Doris in death.

The visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Devon Black will officiate. Burial will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
