Dorothy M. (Davis) Kearbey

July 9, 1915 — February 23, 2012

Dorothy M. Kearbey, 96, a former resident and Poplar Bluff teacher died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012 at Current River Nursing Center in Doniphan, Mo.

Mrs. Kearbey was born July 9, 1915 in Carter County, Mo. She graduated from Ellsinore High School, and received her Bachelor's degree in Education from Cape State College in 1951. Mrs. Kearbey taught elementary school at Ellsinore, Mo., Broseley, Mo., Poplar Bluff and Hazelwood, Mo. where she retired in 1971 after 33 years of teaching. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Esther Sunday School Class. Mrs. Kearbey was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge 519 in Grandin, Mo.

On Aug. 16, 1935, she married Earl C. Kearbey in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Kearbey preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1996.

Survivors include two nieces, Doris Emmons and Phyllis Hartrup both of Doniphan, Mo.; two nephews, Bill Davis of Doniphan, Mo. and D.L. Davis of Poplar Bluff; and a sister-in-law, Neacie Davis also of Doniphan, Mo.

Her parents, Marion and Elizabeth (Shoat) Davis, sisters, Grace Moore, Lucy Queen, Nora Huggins and Cora Rongey and brothers, Bill Davis, Phillip Davis and Joe Davis and several nieces and nephews also preceded Mrs. Kearbey in death.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Dr. William Vail officiating. Burial will be at the Joplin New Hope Cemetery in Carter County, Mo.
