Dorothy Marie Massey

Dorothy Marie Massey, 92, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014 at Cedargate Care Center in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Massey was born Nov. 16, 1921 in Poplar Bluff to the late Adolph and Hilda Wagner Thies. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Poplar Bluff, and over the years she had worked at Brown Shoe Company, Merva Shoe Company as well as Motorola and GTE in Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Massey enjoyed doing her own repairs and keeping up her home, reading poetry, traveling and crocheting.

On Jan. 4, 1991, she married Lemuel W. Massey in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2002.

Survivors include three stepchildren, Charles Massey, Carolyn Pirkle and Richard Massey; a sister, Esther Burns of Osawatomie, Kans.; caregivers and nieces, Barbara Williams, of Millington, Tenn., Sue Scott and Donna Allen, both of Poplar Bluff and Beverly Hardin, of Qulin, Mo.; other nieces and nephews, Brenda Johnson Althaus, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Janis Devlin, of Littleton, Colo., Beckie Dickerson, of Morton, Ill., Fred Smith, Sharon Gingery, and Charles Smith, all of Poplar Bluff, George Smith, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Peggy Richardson, of Lenexa, Kans., Bill Burns, Jerry Burns and Bob Burns, all of Osawatomie, Kans., and Marilyn Johnson, also of Poplar Bluff.

Three sisters, Erna Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson and Frances Smith and a nephew, Richard Johnson also preceded Mrs. Massey in death.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 450 N. Main St. in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the church chapel with Pastor Marty Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn section of the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
