Dorothy (Dot) Pettet passed away peacefully on July 27,2025 and entered her eternal home.
Dot was born on March 4, 1936, in Marshall, Missouri, to Lawrence and Lorene Kessler. Her family later moved to Poplar Bluff, where she graduated from high school and met the love of her life William (Bill) Pettet. They were married on August 15, 1954, and began a beautiful life together.
Dot was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and worked at Montgomery Ward. She and Bill shared a passion for golf, and when they weren’t on the course, Dot could often be found enjoying Bill’s music as he played in his band. A gifted bridge player, Dot cherished time spent around the card table with close friends.
She is survived by her three children, Jack (Tammi) Pettet of Mary Esther, FL, Mark (Lori) Pettet of Cape Girardeau, MO, and MaryAnn (Wayne) Newman of Poplar Bluff, MO; one sister, Virginia Sprigg of Marshall, MO; ten grandchildren, Jessica Walker, Toni Pettet, Drake Douglas, Baili Pettet, Ava Pettet, John Pettet, Britney Moore, William Moore, Jon Newman, and Calvin Newman; and sixteen great grandchildren.
Dot was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Bill Pettet; her parents, Lawrence and Lorene; one brother, Larry Kessler; one granddaughter, Linda Schulz; and her angel baby.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 4, 2025, 10-10:45am followed by a Rosary Service at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Poplar Bluff, MO. Funeral will begin at 11am with Reverend Drake Douglas (grandson) and Brother Mike Malone officiating. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Poplar Bluff or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to MaryAnn and Wayne Newman, and Britney and Jason Schulz for their unwavering love and care for Dot since Bill’s passing.
