Dr. Thomas O. Wood, 89, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was a Family Practitioner at Kneibert Clinic for 15 years beginning in 1972. Prior to this, he had practiced in Judsonia and England, Arkansas. After leaving Kneibert Clinic he practiced at the John J. Pershing VAMC from 1987 until 1993. Dr. Wood continued to be a respected member of the medical community.
Dr. Wood was born May 3, 1928 in Parkin, Ark. to Thomas and Anna Mae Wood. He was the oldest of three children. He served in the United States Army after graduating from Parkin High School. He served overseas in the Korean War in the infantry. After completing his military service, he attended Arkansas State University where he met his future wife, Betty Jean King. He transferred to Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana where he obtained a degree in Petroleum Geology. He worked in the petroleum field and spent 8 years in Venezuela on Lake Maracaibo. He then returned to the United States to pursue a degree in medicine, something he had always wanted to do. He obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Arkansas in 1966. Dr. Wood married his wife Betty in October of 1954. They had two sons and one grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Wood of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two sons, John (Sandy) Wood and Steven Wood, both of Poplar Bluff; one grandson Joel Wood of Destin, Florida; and two sisters Jennean McCutchen and Pat Neal, both of Parkin, Ark.
His hobbies included golf, fishing, tennis, flying, and spending time with family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Holy Cross Episcopal Church located at 420 North Main St., Poplar Bluff, MO.
