Ed Armes, 73, of Poplar Bluff, died Monday, April 4, 2011 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Ed died of a broken heart just 26 days after losing the love of his life, Grace.
Ed was born April 24, 1937 in Poplar Bluff. He and his brother Jack owned and operated Jim's Shell Service Station for more than 30 years. He retired in 2006 from the Butler County Courthouse after many years of service. He was a member of IUOE. Ed was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Rams fan who rarely missed a game and was always a supporter, win or lose. In his younger years, he coached the Jim's Shell Service Station men's softball team alongside his friends. Ed coached his son, Eddie from little league through American Legion baseball, and when he wasn't coaching he and his brother Tom loved to rabbit hunt with their beagles. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and sitting in his backyard watching Purple Martins.
On Dec. 7, 1955, he married Grace Marie Prichard in Poplar Bluff. She passed away March 9, 2011.
Survivors include his children, Eddie Armes and wife Lynn, Lisa Armes Parson and husband Albert and LaDona Armes Eason and husband Vance all of Poplar Bluff; grandchildren, Lance and Wendy Parson, Austin and Jessica Armes, Camille Armes, Jordan, Cody and Kaden Eason and Jessica Carter Ribbing all of Poplar Bluff and Brittney Parson McNiell and husband Jeff of Houston, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Trenton Hodge, Adyson Parson, Abigail Wilson, Lillian Wilson, Cristian Acevado and Dravin Ribbing all of Poplar Bluff, Gracyn McNiell and Landrum McNiell both of Houston, Mo. and soon to be Jaycee Armes of Poplar Bluff; a sister, Pat Battig and husband Don, of St. Louis; brothers, Fred Armes, Bob Armes and wife Marge, and Tom Armes and wife Pat, all of Poplar Bluff; and several nieces, nephews and a multitude of other family members and friends.
His parents, Fred and Thelma Armes, brothers, Jack and Larry Armes and sister-in-law, Toots Armes also preceded Mr. Armes in death.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive and visit with friends and family beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Church of God in Poplar Bluff. A celebration of life service will begin at 12 noon at the church with Pastor Ben Higgins officiating and Rev. Austin Armes assisting. Interment of Mr. Armes's ashes will follow at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
