Eddie Washington Bennett

Eddie W. Bennett, , 88, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

He was born to the late Warren Bennett and Hazel Tanner on June 6, 1931, in Elizabeth, Louisiana. He lived in Westlake, Louisiana until he moved to Los Angeles, California with his Uncle Bill and Aunt Gussie Bryant.

Eddie worked for Monarch Carpet, Drapery & Upholstery for 34 years, hardly missing a day of work. He enjoyed life to the fullest, and loved spending time with his family and friends. Being a jack of all trades, he like working on cars and home improvement projects. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, and cooking and fishing. His favorite dish was Gumbo and his favorite dessert was German Chocolate Cake. He was a gentle giant of a man who will be remembered for his loving spirit and quite presence.

He met his only love, Lula Mae Roberts in 1968, and they married on February 28, 1969, in Los Angeles, California. To this union was born one son and two daughters, Eddie Jr., Nicole and Tracy Bennett.

Eddie was preceded in death by his son Eddie W. Bennett Jr.; his parents Warren and Hazel Bennett; two sisters, Eula Bennett, Anita Bennett; and four brothers, Jack Bennett, Arthur Lee Bennett, Joseph Bennett and Willie Bennett.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Lula Mae Bennett; two daughters, Nicole Bennett and Tracy Bennett of Poplar Bluff; seven grandsons: Jasten, Jamarre, Jakai, Jahmeil (Sellers), Elijah (Shockley) Malachi and Zander (Davis) all of Poplar Buff, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will begin at 11 am Friday, October 18, 2019 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 12 pm. Evangelist Mattie Grace Roberts Pearl will officiate. Burial will be at Morocco Cemetery in the Providence Community of Butler County.
