Eldridge A. Runner, 97, of Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at Consulate Healthcare Center in Ft. Myers.
Mr. Runner was born April 25, 1915 in Warren County, Kentucky. He was a member of Lake Wappapello United Methodist Church, where he was previously active in church affairs and activities, and was a retired baker. Mr. Runner was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, and was awarded an American Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal. He was also a member of the V.F.W.. Mr. Runner enjoyed spending time with his family, and being active in his church.
On July 16, 1949, he married Mabel Katherine Mitchell in Piggott, AR. She preceded him in death on May 21, 1995.
Survivors include a son, Guy Barnes and wife, Carla of Cape Coral, Florida; and three step-grandchildren.
His parents, William B. and Clara Myrtle Davenport Runner also preceded him in death.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
