Elizabeth Hulda Wood, 95, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and a former resident of Pine Bluff, Ark., died Monday, May 21, 2007 at the residence of her daughter, in Doniphan, Mo.
Mrs. Wood was born Feb. 3, 1912, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was a member of the First Christian Church, of Poplar Bluff where she was active in the adult Sunday School Class. In 1932, Mrs. Wood graduated from Southeast Missouri State University, in Cape Girardeau and began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse at Berryman. Her teaching career carried her to Providence schools, Qulin schools, as well as Kinyon and Williamson-Kennedy schools, in Poplar Bluff before retiring in 1974 as a Vocational Adjustment Coordinator for the Poplar Bluff High School. Mrs. Wood was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, A.A.R.P, Altrusa and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She enjoyed traveling, working crossword puzzles and playing Triminos.
On July 2, 1939, she married Seger D. Wood, in Salem, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1962.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy E. Wood, of Doniphan; two grandchildren, Eric Bruce and Becky Bruce Chatat; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin A. Bruce, Shawn M. Chatat and Steven A. Bruce.
Her parents, Joseph and Hattie (Willis) Prickett, sister, Tressee Ashby and three brothers, Marlin Prickett, Joseph Prickett and Richard McGill also preceded Mrs. Wood in death.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the City Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. John Harwell officiating.
